This session enables children to explore fossils and discover what and how we know about dinosaurs, plants and pre-historic marine life.  Activities provide time for children to share their knowledge, explore our objects and items they own and have brought in to school.  The workshop also considers what local pre-history exists for example key fossil sites and finds within the region.

Exploring the lives of local people who have contributed significantly to regional, national and global history.  Examples of these include Mary Seacole, James Watt, William Shakespeare, Florence Nightingale and George Cadbury.

Discovering historic places, locations, sites, references and objects in the immediate environs of the school. Exploring the history of the school. Identifying aspects of local history that relate to the wider history of the country and world. Discovering and discussing significant individuals linked with the local area.

• A (where possible) circular, hour long walk around the school discovering local history features
• Follow-up classroom activity discovering historic resources including maps, archives, letters, diaries, photographs and images relating to the local area
• Producing a postcard (KS1) or leaflet (KS2) illustrating local history knowledge and discoveries
